Coasties
This is a film I’ve been wanting to make for a long time. For years we’ve chased elk along the coast, hoping that one day we’d have the kind of season where everything finally came together. The challenge has never been the effort—it’s always been the opportunity. If you’re familiar with coastal elk hunting, you know just how rare those chances can be. Some seasons you’re lucky to get a single shot opportunity, let alone multiple.
This year was different.
What unfolded over the course of the season was something none of us will ever forget. Within five days, our crew was able to take three bulls during archery season—an incredible stretch of hunting that felt almost unreal. The momentum started early and continued to build as each hunt seemed to create another opportunity.
After years of grinding it out, Sam was finally able to arrow his first archery bull—an accomplishment that made the entire season special on its own. Rob followed it up by taking the biggest bull of his life, a moment that capped off years of dedication to chasing elk in some of the toughest country around. Just a couple days later, Jack was fortunate enough to take his second bull with a recurve, adding another unforgettable moment to an already incredible run of hunts.
Even after that incredible stretch, the season wasn’t quite finished. On the second-to-last day of the season, Brenden was able to capitalize on one final opportunity and arrow his second bull in as many years, putting a perfect cap on a season none of us will ever forget.
This film captures those rare moments—the action, the emotion, and the reality of a season where preparation, persistence, and a little bit of luck all came together.
FILMMAKER BIO
My name is Jack Lander, and I started Golden Roosie back in 2016 as a way to share photos and videos from the hunting and fishing adventures my friends and I were having. What began as a simple outlet to document our time outdoors quickly turned into a passion for storytelling, filming, and photography. Over the years, Golden Roosie has grown into a place where I can share the experiences, lessons, and memories that come with chasing fish and game.
Looking back at some of my earliest content, I can’t help but laugh at how rough some of those posts and videos were. At the time I thought they were great, but it’s pretty clear how much there was to learn. At the same time, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the progress that’s been made since those early days. Learning how to better capture the moments that make hunting and fishing so special has been a big part of the journey.
For me, it has always been about more than just the kill (although this is still very important). It’s about the early mornings, the missed opportunities, the laughs with friends, and the stories that come from time spent outdoors. Hunting and fishing have introduced me to some truly great people, and many of those relationships have become lifelong friendships.
Golden Roosie is simply a reflection of that lifestyle. It’s about sharing authentic experiences in the outdoors, continuing to improve behind the camera, and documenting the adventures that make this way of life so meaningful.
